300
One Word Review: FIGHT!
300 is loud, violent, bloody and stylish. That's about it. If you are into that, it works. I liked it, but it is a pretty simplistic film. Don't expect any kind of depth in the story. Just oily muscle men in loin cloths chopping up lesser foes.
The interesting part of the film is the style. How the film adapts from the original comic book is the most interesting part. There are clearly scenes that are staged to look like a cell from the comic, the early scene with the wolf in silhouette comes to mind. There are also instances when the film uses slow motion. I think that this is done to create the impression of a single cell from the comic. This happens mostly in the battle sequences, however it is used in a few other cases, for example when they consult the oracle. This idea creating these comic images show up again during the sex scene. Fading from black into a very short clip and then fading back to black creates these almost still images.
