Crank
One line review: Jason Statham film.
Is Jason Statham getting a bit type cast or what? In Crank Statham plays a one man army, fighting his way through every obstacle in his path to get the bad guys. Sound familiar? The Transporter? Transporter 2? Yep, a very similar premise. Of course this is what Jason Statham does well and that's what really saves this movie. There is lots of experimental style (most works, some doesn't) and even some clear bending of reality. The writing is good, with some pretty funny lines thrown around, but without Statham in the led role, I think this movie could have been a disaster. In the end its a fun hour and a half.
The plot is pretty straight forward, the hero has been poisoned and wants to get revenge on the people who poisoned him. However to keep the poison from killing him, he needs to keep his adrenaline levels high. Sex, drugs, violence and "extreme" stunts are all used. There is some questionable science here, but if you turn that part of your brain off, it is not really a problem.
In the end if you like no frills action movies, give Crank a shot. It was a fun movie.
As a final note, I think this movie would make a fabulous video game. Or maybe just a GTA3 mod. Imagine this: Along with your health bar, you have a pulse meter. If the pulse gets too slow, you start taking damage. You can keep your pulse high by doing dangerous and exciting things, driving fast, fighting, taking epinephrine shots and committing crimes. Now imagine it as a last man standing mutli-player game. I think that would be awesome.
