Linux is a computer operating system. It performs the same job as Microsoft Windows or Apple's OS X. The main difference between Linux and most other operating systems is that Linux was not developed by a company. Instead it was developed by a large number of individuals who wanted to build a Open Source operating system that could be shared and used by anyone.
