Digital Photography Under Linux

I use Linux as my primary operating system. I'm a geek and I like to be able to control everything, even if that means getting down and dirty with configuration files. However Linux does lack support from many vendors. Therefore you have to use 3rd party software. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Here is a summary of my digital workflow.

  1. Take pictures.
  2. Put the Compact Flash memory card into my USB card reader, (intergrated into my monitor).
  3. I have configured Linux to automatically download images from the CF card into a directory on my computer. (How to configure the card reader in a Dell 2405 LCD in Linux).
  4. Using the Gimp and the UFRaw plugin I seperate the good from the bad and apply any post processing that is required.
  5. Finally, I upload my favourites to Flickr (My Flickr Account) so that I can share them.
